‘Simpsons’ Takes It To The Banksy

“The Simpsons” love a good gag, but the Fox animation show may have stretched the limits of good taste with Sunday’s controversial opening which envisioned a sad Simpsons merchandising facility within the 20th Century Fox lot. The piece was created by British graffiti artist Banksy. The intro opens with the street artist’s tag scrawled across the town of Springfield. It closes with a minute-long sequence showing dozens of sweatshop workers in a warehouse painting cartoon cells and making Simpsons merchandise. The extended sequence was apparently inspired by reports the show outsources the bulk of its animation to a company in South Korea.

ArtsBeat interviewed producer Al Jean.

The Town movie image JON HAMM 522x348 Hamm Plays FBI Guy On The Simpsons

We know Jon Hamm is funny — witness his “30 Rock” and “Saturday Night Live” appearances. So it’s no surprise to see the “Mad Men” actor land a guest spot on “The Simpsons.” On the episode of the Fox animated series entitled “Donnie Fatso” and set to air in December, Hamm will play a FBI supervisor whom Homer reports to when he becomes an undercover informant in prison.

Hamm told Access Hollywood:

“It was an incredible experience. I got to work on ‘The Simpsons,’ which I watched for 20 years and the show is still fresh and still funny and the characters still resonate. It’s one of the best shows on television. It was an honor to be asked to be a part of it.”

BTW 1: Hamm stars as a government official along side Ben Affleck and Blake Lively in “The Town,” due in theaters Sept. 10.

BTW 2: “Mad Men” returns for its fourth season Sunday night at 10 on AMC.
