Designer Elizabeth Perez has received tremendous buzz for her book design for Ray Bradbury’s classic about the burning of books. Over 900,000 views.

I wanted to spread the book-burning message to the book itself. The book’s spine is screen-printed with a matchbook striking paper surface, so the book itself can be burned.

This edition can not be purchased because it’s a concept design.

President Obama said “His gift for storytelling reshaped our culture and expanded our world.” Steven Spielberg said “He was my muse for the better part of my sci-fi career.”

Ray Bradbury — one of our favorite writers, first and forever — inspired generations with his novels “The Martian Chronicles,” “Fahrenheit 451,” “Dandelion Wine,” “Something Wicked This Way Comes” and more than 600 short stories.

Bradbury won a National Medal of the Arts in 2004, a special distinguished career citation from the Pulitzer Board in 2007, and the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America named their screenwriting award in his honor in 1992.

His legacy will not only live on in his books, film, television and theatre, but in the minds and hearts of everyone he touched.

His wisdom included quotes like this one:

If we listened to our intellect we’d never have a love affair. We’d never have a friendship. We’d never go in business because we’d be cynical: “It’s gonna go wrong.” Or “She’s going to hurt me.” Or,”I’ve had a couple of bad love affairs, so therefore . . .” Well, that’s nonsense. You’re going to miss life. You’ve got to jump off the cliff all the time and build your wings on the way down.”

There are tons more:

Ray Bradbury’s treasured 1957 novel “Dandelion Wine” — a copy belongs on everyone’s top bookshelf –is finally going to become a movie. Phoenix Pictures’ Mike Medavoy will produce a film version of the author’s semi-autobiographical book, set in 1928, which centers on a 12-year-old boy as he experiences small-town, summer life. Rodion Nahapetov is writing the screenplay.

Bradbury, who turns 91 on Monday, said, “This is the best birthday gift I could ask for. Today, I have been reborn!”

Dandelion Wine is my most deeply personal work and brings back memories of sheer joy as well as terror. This is the story of me as a young boy and the magic of an unforgettable summer which still holds a mystical power over me.”

Medavoy’s most recent films include “Shutter Island” and “Black Swan,” is currently producing “What to Expect When You’re Expecting.”

Let’s hope they find a great kid to play Douglas Spaulding.
