We loved “Life,” the quirky NBC police drama (2007-09) that starred Damian Lewis and Sarah Shahi, so we can’t help but be excited about the new project from creator/executive producer Rand Ravich.

NBC, which aired “Life,” outbid other networks and gave a put pilot commitment to the untitled drama project, described as an emotionally charged action thriller set in and around the world of Washington, D.C. It follows an idealistic secret service agent who finds himself at the epicenter of an international crisis on his first day on the job. He will need to cross moral and legal lines as he navigates the highest levels of power and corruption on his search for the truth.

Since “Life,” one of our favorite shows, was canceled, we’ve been waiting to see what creator Rand Ravich would come up with next. That project, it turns out, is another quirky crime show called “Edgar Floats,” about a police psychologist who starts a new career as a bounty hunter for his ex-father-in-law. ABC ordered a pilot, which did not make the fall cut, but asked Ravich for six more scripts, giving the show a chance to make the mid-season lineup. One problem: ABC didn’t like Tom Cavanagh as the lead and pretty much everyone else in the cast except Robert Patrick, who plays the ex-father-in-law. Send in some new actors. Maybe Damian Lewis is available.
