About Time We Got Some New Episodes

The CW comes out of hibernation this week with the first new episodes of Gossip Girl (Monday, 9 p.m.), 90210 (Tuesday, 8 p.m.) and Melrose Place (Tuesday, 9 p.m.) in 10 weeks. Gossip Girl and 90210 have been renewed for next season, while Melrose Place, which is supposed to be more fun now that the murder mystery storyline is over, has some work to do to earn a second season.

Here’s what’s up — from The CW press releases.

Gossip Girl

Nate (Chace Crawford) and Serena (Blake Lively) decide to explore the boundaries of their friendship. Blair (Leighton Meester) suspects that Chuck (Ed Westwick) is having problems forgetting about the woman (guest star Laura Harring) he saw at his father’s grave. Jenny (Taylor Momsen) agrees to accompany Damien (guest star Kevin Zegers) to a State Dinner but is unaware that he needs her help with a drug exchange. Vanessa (Jessica Szohr) and Dan (Penn Badgley) attempt to move past the awkwardness of Dan’s confession of love. Rufus (Matthew Settle) returns from a ski trip and tries his best to avoid Lily (Kelly Rutherford).

90210

Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord) returns from her vacation in St. Bart’s excited to spend time with Liam (Matt Lanter), which leads to the two getting up close and personal in his newly built boat. Adrianna (Jessica Lowndes) and Gia (Rumer Willis) bond during an AA meeting and establish a support system for each other which leads to the two sharing a kiss at the Beach Club. Navid (Michael Steger) and Dixon (Tristan Wilds) devise a plan to eliminate Jasper (Zach Sherman) from Annie’s (Shenae Grimes) life, but never anticipate the outcome of a school drug search. Dixon attempts to rekindle his relationship with Silver (Jessica Stroup), while Silver hides her true feelings for Teddy (Trevor Donovan). Harry (Rob Estes) and Debbie (Lori Loughlin) run into Kelly (Jennie Garth) while attending a school function and Debbie confronts Kelly about having a crush on Harry.

Melrose Place

Violet (Ashlee Simpson-Wentz) asks Auggie (Colin Egglesfield) to leave town with her. Amanda (Heather Locklear) puts Ella (Katie Cassidy) in charge of a lavish party at her house to celebrate the arrival of her billionaire boyfriend Ben (guest star Billy Campbell). However, after Amanda spies Ella and Ben together in a compromising position, she lashes out. Meanwhile, Riley (Jessica Lucas) asks Jonah (Michael Rady) if they can start over.

Blake Lively Cast as ‘Carol Ferris’ in ‘Green Lantern’

Those crafty casting directors just scooped themselves a chunk of the Gossip Girl fanbase. Blake Lively has officially been cast as Carol Ferris, the female lead opposite Ryan Reynolds in the upcoming Green Lantern movie.

Production is expected to begin in March with a release date set for June 17, 2011.

Dan, Olivia and Vanessa. So who did you expect would be involved in “Gossip Girl’s” much-hyped threesome? Chuck, a sexual scoundrel, probably can’t recall all his kinky adventures. Ditto Serena, who’s also been around the block. Blair is too picky. Jenny is too young. The D&O&V was hardly steamy onscreen… O kisses D, O kisses V, D kisses V… then we see them asleep in bed at the end of the episode. But the tryst makes for a juicy plotline: what was meant as farewell fun with Olivia thinking she was leaving school to make a movie will have serious fallout now that the movie has suddenly been canceled. Threesome advise: better with strangers.

‘Gossip Girl’ Has PTC Up In Arms

The Parents Television Council is asking CW affiliates to boycott next week’s hotly-anticipated “Gossip Girl” episode about a threesome. “Reckless and irresponsible,” the PTC says. Not fit for impressionable teens. Well, first of all, Serena and Blair and their friends are in college now, and there is a lot of sex going on in dorms across the country. Most of all, “Gossip Girl” is not a serious show about the real world. It’s entertainment, and one of the reasons we love it is because the characters are young and reckless. And we can’t wait to find out who’s making out with whom and whom.

Michael Buble beats Kiss. The Canadian’s new album “Crazy Love” topped the Billboard 200 this week, ahead of Kiss’ “Sonic Boom,” sold only at Walmart.
“Gilmore Girls” creator Amy Sherman-Palladino can spice up her dialogue as she is headed to HBO with her new comedy-drama. Set on the Upper East Side, the untitled show deals with the relationships among three adult sisters, all writers, and their mother, a domineering literary lioness who reserves her affections for their brother.
Golf lover Justin Timberlake told ESPN he recently got a hole-in-one (”a life highlight.”)
Rio de Janeiro has reportedly offered Woody Allen $17 million to film in its city.
Lady Gaga will perform on “Gossip Girl” on Nov. 16.
Garth Brooks is coming out of retirement with an extended gig at the Wynn in Las Vegas.

Ahh, everything looks so perfect in the world of Gossip Girl. Head on over to DaemonsTV and check out some of the first photos of the new season. JoAnna Garcia (Privileged) looks to have some sort of romantic entanglement with Nate and Chuck seems to have a much bigger wardrobe budget.

You really can’t swing a cat in Manhattan without hitting one of those signs from the Mayor’s Office announcing that ‘Gossip Girl’ is about to start filming right where you are standing. In season two of the deliciously glossy tween uber-hit, the drama about a few Upper East Side prep-schoolers gets even juicier. Cleverly, the writers have used each episode to mark the seasons of the city rather than just looking to May Sweeps to ramp up to a big Sadie Hawkins dance (although there IS a charity ball in there). We get to see summer in the Hamptons, Fashion Week, fall foliage, college visitation days and everything else that leads up to the holidays.

Everyone is just as pretty and vicious as they were last year, but now they are more lips to smooch and abs to oggle. Young Jenny is the hottest mess of the lot, but she gets entirely too much screen time – I don’t care how cute you think her haircut is. The young ladies who buy the DVD will be happy to see that an excerpt from the new book in the series, “I Will Always Love You” is included in the case. Other gems on the discs are: a map to see all the hotspots from the show, a gag reel, webisodes with Dorota (LOVE her), and a feature on the art and fashion of the series. I KNOW that the show is a guilty pleasure for anyone over the age of 17, but it’s got good characters, great music and production design, and just enough sudsiness to keep you watching these episodes back-to-back if you haven’t seen them already. Or maybe even for a second viewing…
