Top-rated network CBS never has many holes and can choose its new shows wisely. “Person of Interest,” from J.J. Abrams, is not your typical CBS crime show but the network has bumped “CSI” out of its Thursday at 9 slot to showcase it. Poppy Montgomery is back in “Unforgettable.” “2 Broke Girls” looks like a great fit in the Monday comedy block. The heartwarming “A Gifted Man” could be the surprise of the season.

CBS won a bidding war for this comedy from “Sex and the City” showrunner Michael Patrick King and comedian Whitney Cummings about two young waitresses who work together at a Brooklyn diner. Max (Kat Dennings) comes from a poor working-class family, while Caroline (Beth Behrs) was born rich but is now down on her luck. The two become fast friends, move in together and dream of one day opening a cupcake shop. Dennings and Behrs demonstrated good chemistry in the pilot and advertisers predict the show — scheduled at 8:30 p.m. Mondays — will be a hit.

The only interesting twist is CBS debuting new comedy “2 Broke Girls” after the season premiere of the revamped “Two and a Half Men,” instead of giving that slot to the season premiere of “Mike & Molly.” “Girls” will settle into its regular post-”How I Met Your Mother” position on Sept. 26.
