X files X Files Get New Life As A Comic Book

IDW announced it will continue the adventures of Mulder and Scully in a comic book series written by Joe Harris with art from Michael Walsh. “The X-Files” creator Chris Carter is serving as an “executive producer” on the new series.

Harris told Comic Book Resources that the new series will re-establish the show’s classic mythology, the duo’s quest to discover the truth, conspiracies and paranormal threats.

We’re going to try and usher ‘The X-Files’ into a new age. We’ve got WikiLeaks, now. Drone warfare, the Patriot Act and challenges related to the government and influence from outside forces, corporations and lobby groups. America has challenges, problems both new and old, related to how it functions, as well as just who it really functions for. I think the ‘X-Files’ mythos will fit nicely into these chaotic, interconnected times.”

The X-Files: Season 10 launches June 19th.

Now we just have to get Fox to make the third “X-Files” movie.

The new “Iron Man 3″ poster shows a battle-worn Tony Stark with an army of seven other Iron Mans — the Iron Legion — flying in the background, further evidence that the storyline from director Shane Black and co-writer Drew Pearce is derived from the “Extremis” storylines featured in mid-to-late 2000s Iron Man comics. In the pages, Stark is transformed by the Mandarin’s weaponized nano-tech virus into a human computer, able to mentally control and later manifest his armor.

A new trailer will be online March 5.

Robins come and go.

The current Robin — Damian Wayne, the 10-year-old son of Bruce Wayne and femme fatale Talia Al-Ghul — will bite the dust in the upcoming Batman Incorporated #8.

Writer Grant Morrison told the New York Post:

He saves the world. He does his job as Robin. He dies an absolute hero.”

This being the world of comics, characters hardly ever stay dead. Will Damian get a second life?

Morrison: “You can never say never in a comic book . . . Batman will ultimately always have a partner.”

Robin: A Retrospective

1. Dick Grayson. Batman’s original partner, was introduced in 1940. He grew up (after 43 years) and matured into the hero Nightwing.

2. Jason Todd. Grayson’s replacement, was killed off… by the fans. In 1988, DC conducted a survey on whether Jason should survive a bomb blast set by the Joker. Todd was resurrected in 2005 and now stars in “Red Hood and the Outlaws.”

3. Tim Drake. Introduced in 1989. He retired and currently appears as Red Robin in “Teen Titans.”

4. Stephanie Brown. Drake’s on-and-off girlfriend and an established DC Comics character alternatively known as the Spoiler became the first female version of the character. Stephanie was stripped of the identity by Batman and was apparently killed by the supervillain Black Mask.

Marvel, which has struck gold at the movies, is now getting into the chick-lit business with novels featuring She-Hulk and Rogue. “Strong, smart heroines seeking happiness and love while battling cosmic evil.”

The comics publisher is teaming up with Hyperion Books. The novels are due out this summer.

Hyperion’s editor-in-chief Elisabeth Dyssegaard told Publishers Weekly:

We think the books will definitely appeal to comics readers – male and female – but also draw a new crowd of women readers who will be introduced to superheroes through a medium they already love.”

She-Hulk Diaries by Marta Acosta (an image of a green lipstick is on its cover): Corporate lawyer Jennifer Walters “juggles climbing the corporate ladder by day and battling villains and saving the world by night – all the while trying to navigate the dating world to find a Mr Right who might not mind a sometimes very big and green girlfriend.”

Rogue Touch by Christine Woodward. The X-Men character is a mutant whose touch is lethal but also “a young woman trying to navigate the challenges of everyday life and romance.” Rogue puts her first boyfriend in a coma, then meets “the handsome and otherworldly James.” “Stealing a car, they head out on the highway and eventually, Rogue has to decide whether she will unleash her devastating powers in order to save the only man alive who seems to truly understand her.”

ASM 700 Cover 570x876 Can You Believe What Marvel Did To Spider Man?

The just-released “Amazing Spider-Man #700,” celebrating 50 years of the web-slinger, shakes up the popular franchise. Not simply, a shakeup. More like an earthquake.

  • Peter Parker dies.
  • Spider-Man lives.
  • In Doctor Octopus’ body.

As Perry White used to say: “Great Ceasar’s Ghost!”

The next cycle will begin with “The Superior Spider-Man” #1… with Doc believing that with the combination of his intelligence and Parker’s inherited memories and spider powers, he can be an uber-Spider-Man.

As you may have guessed, reaction — good and bad — has been intense.

CNN spoke to writer Dan Slott and to Marvel editor Stephen Wacker about the controversial comic.

Way to go, Supey!

When you think about it, Superman and Wonder Woman are perfect for each other. They’re both extraordinarily powerful outsiders. The romance can now happen since DC Comics rebooted its entire line of superhero titles last year, and did away with Superman’s marriage to Lois Lane. The comic goes on sale Aug. 29.

EW’s Jeff Jensen interviewed DC writer Geoff Johns who hinted that “some event — possibly tragic — will impact every member of the Justice League, and cause Superman and Wonder Woman to seek solace in each other and move from super-powered colleagues to power couple.”

EW reports that artist Jim Lee took inspiration from Gustav Klimt’s The Kiss and Alfred Eisenstaedt’s V-J Day in Times Square photograph.
