A “Roswell” reboot. We’re all in.
The cult science fiction series (1999-2002) portrayed teenage alien/human hybrids living in Roswell, New Mexico. Based on the Melinda Metz young adult books, the WB/UPN series was developed, produced, and co-written by Jason Katims. A great cast included Shiri Appleby, Jason Behr, Katherine Heigl, Brendan Fehr and Majandra Delfino.
The CW is teaming with “The Originals” producer Carina MacKenzie on the reboot. The project has an immigrant twist. The official logline:
“After reluctantly returning to her tourist-trap hometown of Roswell, New Mexico, the daughter of undocumented immigrants discovers a shocking truth about her teenage crush who is now a police officer: He’s an alien who has kept his unearthly abilities hidden his entire life. She protects his secret as the two reconnect and begin to investigate his origins, but when a violent attack and long-standing government cover-up point to a greater alien presence on Earth, the politics of fear and hatred threaten to expose him and destroy their deepening romance.”
Reboots continue to remain in high demand this development season. Also in the works this season are reboots of The Nice Guys (Fox), True Lies (Fox), The Jetsons (ABC), The Munsters (NBC), Starsky and Hutch (Amazon) and Party of Five, the latter of which is currently being shopped.
