Ryan Seacrest is Kelly Ripa’s new co-host on “Live,” ending a year-long search to replace her former partner Michael Strahan.

Good choice. Seacrest brings energy and enthusiasm — plus a big name — to the show, which may face off in the fall against Megyn Kelly’s new morning show for NBC.

The former “American Idol” host, who lives in Los Angeles and hosts a syndicated radio show there, will move to Manhattan for his new job. Seacrest says he’ll spend weekdays in New York and make the 6-hour trek back to Los Angeles on the weekends. Seacrest is an executive producer for “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” which is based in southern California.
