Cinemax has joined premium cable rivals HBO, Showtime and Starz by adding compelling original series, targeted to the men 18-49 demo.

“Strike Back” — Its first offering, about a top-secret intelligence agency known as Section 20, just wrapped up season 2. A zesty combination of explosive action and sex. We’re hooked. Bring on season 3.

“The Hunted” — An international spy thriller from Frank Spotnitz (“X-Files”) starring Australian actress Melissa George, debuted last weekend. Complex storyline, kick-ass lead character. We’ll keep watching.

“Banshee” — Antony Starr plays a notorious thief in a new project from Alan Ball (“True Blood”). Debuts Jan. 11. It’s from Ball. Of course, we’re on board.
