Our heroes on “The Walking Dead” killed zombies in record numbers on Sunday night’s season three premiere. Such gory fun.

• “The Walking Dead” delivered an amazing 10.9 million viewers for its first telecast. A total viewer number of 15.2 million, counting two encore telecasts. Those numbers are up more than 50 percent from last year.
• More impressive: the show’s adults 18-49 demo rating of a 5.8. That’s higher than any other entertainment show — network or cable — this season. ABC’s “Modern Family” season premiere earned a 5.5.
