‘Avengers’ Smashes Records With $200.3M Opening

“The Avengers” opened the summer movie season with a big bang, shattering the domestic revenue record with a $200.3 million debut (according to Disney estimates on Sunday.)
The Marvel superheroes shot past the previous record of $169.2 million for the debut of last year’s “Harry Potter” finale.
“The Avengers,” which blasted off a week ago overseas, has skyrocketed to to a worldwide total of $641.8 million… and already surpassed the lifetime totals of Captain America: The First Avenger ($364 million), Thor ($449 million), Iron Man ($585 million) and Iron Man 2 ($624 million).
