By now I’m sure you getting a little sick of the sap filled Christmas specials that are starting to roll out on network television. Thankfully, “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia: A Very Sunny Christmas” is here to save us from those warm Holiday feelings.
Always Sunny is usually a hit or miss with me. While the jokes always play well in 30 second spots they don’t seem to really shine in a 30 minute episode. But however I feel about it, it has managed to make it to the fifth season and with that comes little perks, like lavish Christmas specials.
“A Very Sunny Christmas” pulls out all the stops, pushing both nudity (Danny DeVito) and profanity (Danny DeVito) all in an extra long episode. Also, there is a pretty jaw dropping stop-motion musical number which you will have stuck in your heads for days.
In Usual ‘Sunny’ fashion, The gang attempts to teach Frank a Dickens-inspired lesson after years of him giving the worst Christmas gifts. Meanwhile, Charlie and Mac try to exorcise some ghosts from their Christmas past while stealing presents from under other people’s trees and getting back at Santa for sleeping with Charlie’s mom. It ends as most episodes of Sunny usually do, with a real punch to the gut. Needless to say, you won’t be feeling any of those sappy warm holiday feelings when the credits are rolling.
