The viewers: impressive. The debut drew 17.7 million. That compares to the roughly 5 million that used to regularly watch Leno’s old “Tonight Show.” Of course, the numbers will drop. Let’s see how they are when the TV season is in full swing.
The critics: not impressed for the most part. Robert Bianco wrote it was a “cut-rate, snooze-inducing, rehashed bore.” But then Jay has never been the critics’ darling. The new show is the good old Leno viewers have come to know and love. What did you really expect?
