For the first time in twenty years Ghostbusters is back at the forefront of pop culture. With its 25th anniversary, video game release, toys line and production of a third film, die hard GB fans are reaching unhealthy levels of excitement. It should be noted, that I am one of those fans.
The Blu-ray disc, as well as having the complete digitally mastered video and audio, also includes all sorts of exclusive Blu-Ray special features. A short featurette on the restoration of Ecto 1 and Slimer-mode; a picture-in-picture video commentary/featurette that plays through the movie are among the favorites. Also, you can take a look behind the scenes at the new ‘Ghostbusters: The Video Game’ (which we also reviewed)
Unfortunately Murray is absent through all the interviews included for the various features. And I imagine die-hard ghost fans may still be hoping for more. For example, those Slimer / Stay Puft camera tests that leaked onto YouTube about a year ago are no where to be found on the disc. But there is enough new content that has been produced to elevate any fan into Ghostbusters ecstasy.
With the release of Ghostbusters II on Blu-Ray looming and a third film in production I’m sure we will see a handful of box sets and collectors items to follow in the next couple of years. That being said, the release of Ghostbusters on Blu-Ray is reason enough to go out and buy a Blu-Ray player.
