Criterion Collection / Paramount DVD
In shops now
The Criterion edition of the Button DVD has two discs; one of which is the film (obvi) and the other is ‘The Supplements,’ which is a snazzy way of saying bonus features. Now, we’ve already reviewed the film so let’s discus dem features, shall we?
Criterion Collection really is the definitive house for film-lovers, and they do not disappoint when it comes to Benjamin Button. The supplemental disc breaks down the goods into sections (well, “trimesters” which is kinda cheesy). First, we get to see interviews with director, David Fincher, producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall and screenwriter, Eric Roth. For those of you who live outside the greater Hollywood area, you’ll learn that this movie has been kicking around FOREVER. Frank Oz, Steven Spielberg, Tom Cruise, they all worked on it in some way, shape or form.
Once we start looking at the production elements, you can see what a feat the film was to make. From shooting on location in New Orleans and Montreal to soundstages at Sony where the Chelsea boat was built to combat all the elements. Interviews throughout include Fincher, Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett and several of the designers. It’s all about the process and this DVD has the goods. For those of you who balked about the running time or anything else Button-wise, these supplements will certainly enhance the experience of an already amazing film.
