David Chase is going from gangsters to movie stars. The creator of “The Sopranos” is returning to HBO to develop a miniseries about the early days of the Hollywood film industry. The scripted miniseries will be called “A Ribbon of Dreams,” after Orson Welles’ famous line, “A film is a ribbon of dreams.” It will begin in 1913 and follow two men, one a college-educated engineer, the other a cowboy, who form a producing partnership and become industry heavyweights. The two main characters will begin as employees of D.W. Griffith, and along the way they will cross paths with John Ford, John Wayne, Bette Davis, Billy Wilder, and other Hollywood legends.
