Three movies you should see: Rachel Getting Married, Frozen River and Ballast. They each scored six Spirit Award nominations.

One big surprise: Milk, the strongest Oscar contender of the pack, picked up four nods (for Sean Penn, James Franco, screenplay, and cinematography), but was left out of the feature and director categories.
