One Tree Hill: The Complete Fifth Season

I so wish I went to high school in Tree Hill, North Carolina.  Before diving into the fifth season DVD, I had a refresher course on the series.  In their senior year, these teenagers go through the typical trials and tribulations of TV students.  There’s a stalker, a pregnancy, gunplay, the usual.  The twist in the season five opener is that we have jumped forward four and a half years.  A lot of drama has gone down, and this group of students have now been through a lot - primarily as entertainers.  There’s a novelist, a fashion designer, a wannabe music exec, a washed-up basketball star, and the parents are nowhere to be seen.  Somehow everyone ends up back in Tree Hill (mais oui) and a crop of new characters enter the mix: Lucas has a new editor girlfriend, Brooke has her crazy-ass mom (Daphne Zuniga) running her life, and Hailey and Nathan have a friggin’ adorable 4 year-old whose Lipnicki-ness provides a sounding board for the whole cast.  Then there’s also the hot nanny character who’s a total ho-bag slutface.  At certain points in the season i found myself trudging though in the hopes that she’d be decapitated.  Eventually the back story of those missing years unfolds and stray dogs from past years are resurrected.  Honestly, I can’t tell if it’s good or I’m just hooked.  I will say that they all dress pretty well for rugrats.  Lots of ties and such.  And so I keep watching and wonder who will get knocked off in season six. I hope it’s juicy…
