I’m not a gamer but it’s impossible not to be impressed by the popularity of the controversial Grand Theft Auto series. GTA IV hit stores on April 29 (projected to earn a record $360 million in sales in its first week). Condemned by pols (Hillary Clinton for one) and parent groups… praised by critics, compared to “The Godfather” even.
Look what the New York Times said:
Grand Theft Auto IV is a violent, intelligent, profane, endearing, obnoxious, sly, richly textured and thoroughly compelling work of cultural satire disguised as fun. . . sets a new standard for what is possible in interactive arts.
