High-definition pioneer Mark Cuban is taking another step forward: a 3-D basketball telecast. Tuesday’s NBA game between Cuban’s Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Clippers will air in 3-D for an audience at the Landmark Theatre. Cuban, the founder of HDNet, told the “Hollywood Reporter” that he hopes the event will serve to underscore the belief that live 3-D represents a new alternative content opportunity.
I think 3-D will play a huge role in out-of-home entertainment for the next few years. It will be a unique experience for watching sports, concerts and special events that only theaters will be able to offer.
