Give ‘Jezebel James’ A Chance

OK, it’s no “Gilmore Girls,” but “The Return of Jezebel James,” Amy Sherman-Palladino’s new Fox comedy, isn’t quite the stinker critics are making it out to be. ‘James” is a traditional multi-camera sitcom with unfortunate canned laughter, the kind that Sherman-Palladino got her start on, and shouldn’t be compared to the critics darling “Girls.” The writing is sharp and the acting is sold. Parker Posey is fine as Sarah, a successful New York City children’s book editor who wants to have a baby but is told she can’t conceive. Lauren Ambrose plays Coco, the estranged slacker sister who agrees to become Sarah’s surrogate. Too bad Fox doomed the show by banishing it to Friday night.
