ABC hopes to revive “Cupid,” the cult favorite that was a breakout for writer Rob Thomas and star Jeremy Piven. Thomas, who went on to create “Veronica Mars”, has signed to develop a new version of the 1998-99 show — it lasted 15 episodes — about a man who thinks he’s been sent to Earth by Zeus to spark romance. Piven is too busy with “Entourage” to recreate the role but that’s OK. It’s hard to imagine him as Cupid now. Thomas told “Variety”: “For the last couple years, I’ve been talking to ABC about how to do an anthological romantic comedy a la ‘Cupid’ or ‘Love Boat,’ We kept beating around ideas and kept coming back to ‘Cupid’ as the best of the group. So they said to me, ‘Why not go back and do ‘Cupid’ again?”
