CBS drama “Cold Case” has done some terrific episodes using the music of Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen and U2. Now it’s Nirvana’s turn in the fifth-season opener (9 p.m., Sept. 23). Eight songs are featured: “All Apologies,” “Stay Away,” “If You Must,” “Lithium,” “Drain You,” “Heart Shaped Box,” “Something in the Way” and “Come as You Are.” Cold Case executive producer Veena Sud said in a CBS press release that the episode (”Thrill Kill”) is “about two seemingly nihilistic male teens who may have been falsely accused and convicted of murdering three 10-year-old boys… Nirvana’s music not only evokes the era when this case’s killings took place but brings a starkness and poetry to the story that deeply enhances it.” Seems a little dark. How about using the music of the Spice Girls in the next one.
