Too bad FOX shut down “The O.C.” ‘cause the Hot IQs coulda been a contender for the umpteenth volume of the soundtrack. With a style that is more rock-pop than pop-rock, this band is clearly ready to take over the dance floor. They are a two guys, one girl trio from Denver (I wonder if they know “The Real World” kids…) who show no shortage of spunk. There’s definitely a flavor of the B-52s in here with the vocals of Eli Mishkin – somehow both sinister and soothing at the same time. Of the five tracks on the EP, “Duck & Cover” is certainly the most delicious and a good iPod choice. All in all, it’s fun and a little dark in its tone, exemplified by the wonderful album artwork of J Allen Till. Take a listen.
