The other day, while pouring through all the talk shows I feel the compulsive need to DVR, I came across one of the funniest guest segments I’ve caught in quite some time. Amy Sedaris was on “Martha,” talking her through a recipe from her new book called “I Like You.” Between accidentally pouring nearly a cup of salt into the batter and threatening to run off with a Kitchen Aid, Sedaris proved herself to be one of the funniest women alive. Sure, that’s a bold statement, but when you see her in action, I think you’ll agree. Her book, which features tips on entertaining, recipes, and various delightful tidbits, is thoroughly enjoyable. While the book has great photos and would make a cute gift, I would also suggest the audiobook for your iPod, which is read by the author. This is where you’ll hear the funny lady talk about ideas for everything from kids parties (she offers a “strict time span” such as 2 – 2:30) to booby-trapping your medicine cabinet with marbles (“nothing announces a nosy partygoer more successfully than an avalanche of marbles striking a porcelain sink.”) This book is a pure delight. People have already tried to pinch it from my apartment. That’s how fun it is.
