The super-glossy insert for “Back to Basics” not only features all the lyrics to the album (which Aguilera executive produced), but it’s got the stylized look of Hollywood days gone by. Her voice and style have become unmistakable, and we still dig it. This album has gobs of new material on two discs (one is an enhanced CD) including a song called “Thank You,” which is a dedication to her fans. My personal favorites are her most colorful tracks that take me back to the days of the Moulin Rouge. Also notable are the ballads – the softer side of this pint-size pop princess – among them is “Oh Mother,” which quietly coos “Then suddenly things seemed to change / It was the moment she took his name / He took his anger out on her face / And she kept all of her pain locked away.” Moral of the story is that Aguilera has quite the voice, and you don’t need to hear her sing to realize it.
