Superman Returns

Yes, the wait is over. Rather than see this movie in a bitty screening room, I opted to see it on a ginormous screen with hundreds of people. By the opening credits, we were all whooping and hollering to the John Williams theme. And indeed, Superman has returned and he’s better than ever. While the folklore of this particular superhero is clearly intact and his storyline moves forward in Bryan Singer’s film, the real pleasure in watching this film is seeing a hero swoop down from the heavens to save the world. Maybe because this just happens to have arrived at a time when we need heroes more than ever, or perhaps because Brandon Routh is channeling Christopher Reeve and we hear the voice of Marlon Brando from beyond…whatever the reason, the tears may fall as you take in this great film about a great hero. Run, don’t walk, people.

I agree completely! I have seen it twice, and loved it both times! And the first time Brandon Routh did the classic “Christopher Reeves” smirk as Clark Kent, I did cry. I enjoyed it immensely, and I think it honors the memories of the Reeves and Brando completely! If only Bryan Singer had been able to direct both this and X-Men 3…

Ewww…. I have to say, Mr. S, that I thought “Superman Returns” was less than fabulous. So much about the plot of this movie didn’t make any sense. Why is it 5 years later, and not only do the characters not look any older, THEY LOOK YOUNGER?! And the acting? yaaawwwn… Give me Margot “Crazy” Kidder and Chris(gasp)topher(gasp) Reeve anyday.
Poor Marlon Brando. Did anyone else find it amusing that Eva Marie Saint was in it too? If I could say one good thing about this movie, it would be that it made me want to watch “On the Waterfront” and remember a time when those two actors were in their prime.
